The globalisation process, which was first triggered by migration, frequently resulted in the emergence of a global culture that eclipsed local culture and gave rise to an outward-looking mindset in the form of false culture or prosthetic memory.

Furthermore, as shown in the Javanese diaspora communities in Suriname, Johor, and New Caledonia, global culture frequently continues to support the survival of migrants' native cultures. On the other side, as a consequence of local cultures being lost as a result of globalisation, people all over the world are making an attempt to reclaim their lost identities, whether those identities be political, cultural, or social.
